Customer Retention & Repeat Purchases — for ecommerce and quick commerce
All servicesAfter the first order, what brings a customer back?
We review buying behaviour and the customer experience, then plan relevant messages and when to send them. We test what encourages customers to buy again and measure the results and cost.
New orders are coming in. What happens after that?
- You are gaining first-time buyers, but do not know who returns or when.
- You send everyone the same offer, despite differences in what they bought and their experience with you.
- You rely on discounts to bring customers back and want to understand their actual impact.
- You already send messages and follow up with customers, but are unsure what to change or stop.
The customer has not returned. Why?
They may not need the product yet, may have tried to buy without completing the order, or may have experienced a problem. We review the available data to choose the right next step: a reminder, an offer or resolving the issue.
Illustrative examples. We assess the actual situation using your store’s data.
Not ready to buy again
We review the time between orders and the type of product before deciding when to make contact.
Tried to buy but did not finish
We review the available data to understand what prevented the order. The customer may need the issue resolved before another message.
An experience that needs attention
We work with the responsible team to understand and address the issue before suggesting another offer.
What we work on
We choose messages and timing that fit your business and the data available.
Understanding repeat purchases
We review who buys again, when they return and what they buy. We compare customer groups and identify what needs a closer look.
Segments and timing
We identify who to contact now, who to contact later and who needs an earlier issue resolved. We consider product type, contact preferences and consent.
Messages and sequences
We define what to say, why, which channel to use, when to send each message and when to stop. Examples include post-purchase follow-up and reorder reminders where they suit the product.
Testing impact and reviewing cost
We track repeat purchases and the order value remaining after incentives and related costs. We use the findings to decide what to continue and what to change.
What you receive
A review of the current situation
We define what counts as a repeat purchase, what we know about its timing and possible barriers, and where data is missing.
A plan for customers, messages and timing
Who enters each sequence and when they leave, message timing and frequency, the copy and assets needed, and who prepares them.
An implementation and measurement plan
Where to start, what needs preparing, what to measure and when to review it. Building and running the sequences is agreed within the implementation scope.
Did the customer return, and what part did messages play?
Opening or clicking a message does not mean a purchase took place. We track orders over a period suited to the product and compare customer groups followed for the same length of time.
Where the data and test design allow, we also compare with customers who did not receive the messages or offers to estimate their effect. Without a suitable comparison, we explain that the figures describe what happened and do not prove that contact caused the return.
Who runs the messages, and on which tools?
Your team can use the plan, or we can build and run the sequences on the agreed tools and channels. We review the rules and messages before launch.
- Tool subscriptions, sending fees and offer costs are set out separately in the scope.
- We agree on integrations, required content and creative, and the scale of delivery before work begins.
- We raise payment, product availability and delivery issues with the responsible team. Managing those operations is outside this service.
- This service is for ecommerce and quick commerce; it is not SaaS user onboarding or real-estate sales follow-up.
Start with purchase history and what you know about the customer experience.
- Order, customer and product data needed for the review, with appropriate access.
- Current messages, offers and sequences, and the customer contact permissions available.
- Available data on cancellations, returns and order problems.
- Relevant costs, the tools in use and the team responsible for running them.
If the data is limited, we explain what it can tell us and what needs preparation or further collection.
Questions about retention and repeat purchase
Do we need a discount to bring customers back?
Not necessarily. We review customer needs, timing and experience before suggesting an incentive. If we test an offer, we measure its cost and impact; an order placed after an offer was sent was not necessarily caused by it.
Does the service include building and running message sequences?
It can, depending on your tools, data and the agreed execution scope. We make clear what we build and what your team runs.
Should we message everyone who has stopped buying?
We do not treat every customer the same way. We review when they may need the product, their past experience and whether we can contact them, then decide who should receive a message and who needs a different next step.
Does this work for products bought infrequently?
We review the product first and do not assume a fixed date for another purchase. Useful contact or help with a related need may be more appropriate than asking customers to buy before they need to.
How do we avoid too many or overlapping messages?
We define when each message is sent, how often and when it stops, and review the sequences together. We account for new orders, customer preferences and requests to stop messages.
Do you guarantee a specific increase in repeat purchase?
No. We set a starting point and a way to measure, test changes and review their impact and cost.
